Speed Reading

Everyday we are challenged to read in a variety of forms. From print on T.V. commercials to mailing advertisements to street signs and restaurant menus, we can hardly avoid reading. That doesn't even account for reading for information, like newspapers, or reading for entertainment, like a New York Times Best Seller or a favorite magazine. With so much to read everyday (and still have time for the rest of our lives) the desire for speed reading is strong and common to most everyone.

From pre-reading toddlers to proficiently reading 6th graders we make a lot of improvement in our reading skills. From not knowing a single letter to reading chapter books in just a few years is remarkable. However, very little progress is made in improving reading skills once those chapter books are mastered.

Naturally one would assume that reading more would lead to reading faster. This is true, but only to a limited extent. Without adding reading techniques to our repertoire, we will forever be stuck with the obstacles that slow us down!

Want to see where your speed reading skills are now? Take the Speed Reading Pre-Test. The test is best viewed in Firefox or Safari (not Internet Explorer!)
